3D printed heart model helped the surgical team cut down on operating time and reduce exploratory surgeries for a 14 month-old-boy, according to the Courier-Journal. The heart surgeon’s comment was “Once I had a model, I knew exactly what I needed to do and how I could do it. It was a tremendous benefit.”
3D printing is still in its nascence, and it’s certainly far away from being able to solve problems for the general public . Still, it’s found a number of uses in specialized cases like building a replacement hand for a young boy, or printing out nano-devices that can be used for medical purposes.
